Amos Rex
Amos Rex is an architectural landmark and an essential part of Helsinki’s youthful urban culture. The museum’s website is often the customer’s first touchpoint, and therefore, it should reflect the same atmosphere as the museum’s physical space.

Project Overview
Our goal was to create a new website for Amos Rex that reflects the museum’s unique atmosphere and artistic identity. Like a visit to the museum, visiting the website was intended to be an aesthetic experience, creating a comparable, unique visual and emotional world as the physical space. The site needed to serve as an inspiring digital business card for the museum.

Challenge
Amos Rex’s physical space and exhibitions create a unique experience for visitors, based on bold architecture and intense art. The challenge was to capture this spirit and emotion in digital form and sharpen its appearance so that the site would become an extension of the museum.
Simultaneously, the web service had to effectively serve all user groups and guide them to act intuitively on the site. Therefore, the visual identity was derived from Amos Rex’s strong identity and brought to life on the digital platform while adhering to accessibility requirements.

Solution
Our solution was strongly based on user-centric conceptualization and a visual design reflecting the architecture of Amos Rex.
In the conceptualization phase we focused on identifying and serving the needs of different user groups. Amos Rex is known for immersive and comprehensive cultural experiences where art and people meet in a unique, urban, and architectural environment. We focused on highlighting Amos Rex’s position as a global art institution and an important source of art education. Together with Amos Rex, we built specific user paths that intuitively covered all target audiences, also serving the museum’s committed and regular fans.
The goal of the visual design was to create a digital art gallery that reflects the museum’s bold architecture and immersive exhibitions. The key cornerstones of the site’s visual identity were:
- A clear and minimalistic layout that allows room for eye-catching images and strong typography.
- A spacious and confident visual rhythm that corresponds to the museum’s physical experience.
- Large CTA buttons to ensure effortless navigation and to guide visitors toward key actions, such as buying tickets and exploring exhibitions.
We built the new website on WordPress, using our Evermade Studio platform to ensure high-quality, streamlined, and user-friendly experience for the museum’s team. The development of the site was deliberately kept simple and clean, prioritizing the visual experience and content management. To manage ticket sales seamlessly, we integrated the Liveto ticketing system with a button that opens the shop in a modal window. Additionally, responsiveness was essential throughout the process to ensure the site’s equitable functionality across all devices. We also proactively considered accessibility in the design and technical implementation to ensure a better user experience for all visitors.

The result is calm yet dynamic experience that invites exploration and reflects Amos Rex’s own unique atmosphere.
The renewed Amos Rex website has raised the museum’s digital profile, enhanced visitor flows, and improved search engine visibility. The new platform has created a strong foundation for the museum’s digital operations, and the site has been able to support large visitor volumes and periods of high demand.
