A digital theme park for the world’s most famous birds

Angry Birds is a global entertainment phenomenon. We have served as the brand’s digital partner for several years, and in 2022, our goal was to present the Angry Birds brand better than ever before – bringing the birds to life through animation and offering fans new ways to interact with the brand.

the starting point
While the Angry Birds brand is known for its playfulness, the previous website had remained static and game-centric. It failed to convey the brand’s dynamism or give fans a reason to stay on the site. The project began with conceptualization and workshops alongside Rovio’s team to map out the requirements for a new website. We studied Angry Birds games and fan culture to better understand the target audience. We quickly realized that angrybirds.com is much more than a game repository for fans: everyone experiences Angry Birds in their own way. We wanted to create a site so immersive and entertaining that users lose track of time while browsing and exploring.
The new site brings to life the Angryverse concept created by Rovio: a digital environment where bird characters come alive through animations and where fans can participate in building the world themselves. The challenge was to combine a massive amount of content, animations, and a seamless user experience into a high-performance whole.
our solution
Interactivity is a major part of the website. With the new Birdsona tool, fans can mix and match different bird parts and add accessories to create their own unique bird. While the site is packed with content and entertaining activities, a familiar element is always present: Red. “Redbot” was created to guide the user and comment on their actions throughout the entire experience.
The website is built on WordPress using the Gutenberg editor. Evermade Studio allows for the quick and easy creation of pages while achieving visually stunning results that are always in line with the Angry Birds brand. Rovio’s team has the freedom to create and tailor content without compromising brand consistency. The Birdsona Creator was built as a React application in collaboration with Rovio’s graphic design team. Framer Motion was used to create realistic, flexible movement for the birds and their accessories.
